What, where, when, and how do customers behave?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Examples:\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tree Test, Usability Study, Scroll Map<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>ROLE: Self-Reported or Observational<\/b><\/h3>\n<h4><b>Self-Reported Research<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In self-reported research, customers report their own attitudes or behaviors. Use caution when choosing self-reported research methods \u2014 especially when a question relies on a customer\u2019s (often faulty) memory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Examples:\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Survey, Customer Interview<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Observational Research<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In observational research, researchers see customer behaviors and attitudes first-hand. During usability testing, I can observe a customer\u2019s frustrations just by their facial expressions and don&#8217;t need to rely only on what they say.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Examples:<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Heat Map, Usability Study, Contextual Inquiry<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>GOAL: Quantitative or Qualitative<\/b><\/h3>\n<h4><b>Quantitative Research<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quantitative research answers \u201chow many\u201d or \u201chow often.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Examples:\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Survey, Web Analytics, Card Sort<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Qualitative Research<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Qualitative research is used to understand underlying reasons, opinions, or motivations.
