But it works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to increase leads, use a straightforward description of what your B2B company does and explain how you can help me do my job better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">\\Here is just\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-size: inherit;\" href=\"http:\/\/signalvnoise.com\/posts\/1525-writing-decisions-headline-tests-on-the-highrise-signup-page\">one<\/a><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\"> of many case studies that prove headlines\u00a0have a significant impact on signups and leads.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Examples of B2B home pages that get it right<\/h2>\n<p>Many times I&#8217;ll come across a B2B website that will stump me. For the life of me, I can&#8217;t figure out what they do. I read the home page. I read it again.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong>Built for Business.<\/strong> Affordable, fast, customizable, and optimized for your business success.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sorry, what does that mean? What do they sell?<\/p>\n<p>It took some digging, but I found these examples of B2B home pages that I think do a pretty good job of explaining what the company does and why it matters to their target customer.<\/p>\n<h3>Ninja Metrics<\/h3>\n<p>I love the subtle qualifier of &#8220;true&#8221; here. Find not only the people who have the ability to influence others, but do it with accuracy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ninjametrics.com\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1772\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" src=\"http:\/\/juneux.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/ninjametrics_home.jpg\" alt=\"Ninja Metrics\" width=\"640\" height=\"319\" srcset=\"https:\/\/juneux.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/ninjametrics_home.jpg 1012w, https:\/\/juneux.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/ninjametrics_home-300x149.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>App Data Room<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;Mobilize My Sales&#8221; is a brilliant CTA. It says both &#8220;increase sales&#8221; and &#8220;how you&#8217;ll do it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/appdataroom.com\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1773\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" src=\"http:\/\/juneux.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/appdataroom_home.jpg\" alt=\"App Data Room\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/juneux.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/appdataroom_home.jpg 1002w, https:\/\/juneux.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/appdataroom_home-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Workface<\/h3>\n<p>For people who didn&#8217;t know Workface 1.0 existed, I don&#8217;t know that adding a &#8220;2.o&#8221; adds anything. But, the supporting copy clearly states who this product is for and what it does. Bonus: I can see what live chat looks like on <em>my<\/em> site.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.workface.com\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1782\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" src=\"http:\/\/juneux.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/workface_home1.jpg\" alt=\"Workface\" width=\"640\" height=\"381\" srcset=\"https:\/\/juneux.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/workface_home1.jpg 745w, https:\/\/juneux.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/workface_home1-300x178.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Ayrstone Productivity<\/h3>\n<p>Benefit-driven and to the point. Sometimes we forget that people who work at B2B companies are humans. Throw out the buttoned-up, stuffy language. If it takes a bit more real estate to explain what you do, go for it. If any word ends in \u201c-ize\u201d or you spot a catch phrase that could easily be found on a buzzword bingo card, it\u2019s time for a re-do.<\/p>\n<h3>1. Use plain language.<\/h3>\n<p>Absolutely do not use industry jargon. Don\u2019t use acronyms. Or corporate-speak. Paradigm. Synergy. Out-of-the-box. Core competency. Or any bingo-winning phrases like these.<\/p>\n<p>Push hard to better qualify throw-away phrases such as \u201ccost-effective solutions\u201d or \u201coptimized for your business needs.\u201d Quantify your claims. Instead of \u201cwork faster,\u201d say \u201creduce new employee background checks from 2 hours per week to 30 minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>2. Say what you specialize in.<\/h3>\n<p>To stand out from 3,000 other independent accountants, choose a niche. Maybe you cater to the creative industry or just non-profits. If you\u2019re a web development shop, pick a technology or programming language to dominate.<\/p>\n<p>Point out can\u2019t-live-without features your competitors don\u2019t offer.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Show, don\u2019t tell.<\/h3>\n<p>If there are visuals that can help explain what you do, invest in a really good designer. If a static graphic can\u2019t do your company justice, use video.<\/p>\n<p>Or use the ultimate \u201cseeing is believing\u201d format: the trial. Encourage people to sign up for a 30-day free trial, order free samples, or watch a demo.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Describe what\u2019s in it for me.<\/h3>\n<p>Are you droning on and on about your company, or do you pay homage to your customers? It\u2019s not about what you sell, it\u2019s about what your customers need. Why do your customers need your product or service? How does it improve their lives?<\/p>\n<h3>5. Be brief, but meaningful.<\/h3>\n<p>There\u2019s a trend among some copywriters to sum up an entire company in a 2- or 3-word headline. If you can pull it off, great. Otherwise use as few words as possible but with 100% clarity.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a quick test you can do: Write your headline on a blank sheet of paper and show it to your prospective customers. If it makes sense, you may have a winner.
