Intrigued, I dug deeper and discovered a fantastic resource called <a title=\"Audio Accessibility\" href=\"http:\/\/audio-accessibility.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Audio-Accessibility.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Audio Accessibility is run by Svetlana Kouznetsova, a Web designer and advocate for the deaf and hard of hearing community.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/audio-accessibility.com\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1067 alignright\" title=\"Audio Accessibility\" src=\"http:\/\/juneux.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/audio_accessibility.jpg\" alt=\"Audio Accessibility\" width=\"610\" srcset=\"https:\/\/juneux.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/audio_accessibility.jpg 979w, https:\/\/juneux.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/audio_accessibility-300x188.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the wealth of information, resources, and stats Svetlana provides on her site, one of the most eye-opening insights was the research she found about video viewership. <strong>More people watch videos longer<\/strong> when the video is\u00a0<strong>captioned<\/strong>. Captioning has universal benefits for <em>all<\/em> types of audiences.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When <strong>users are at work<\/strong> and don\u2019t want to disturb others (or be overheard).<\/li>\n<li>When the speaker in the video is <strong>difficult to understand<\/strong> or is speaking in another language.<\/li>\n<li>When users are in <strong>noisy environments<\/strong> (e.g., coffeeshops).<\/li>\n<li>Captioning also\u00a0<strong>boosts literacy<\/strong> and promotes learning among children.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>even helps SEO<\/strong> because the captions are stored in a text file.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/svkNYC\/bigd-conference-2012-13282305\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1069\" title=\"Increase video viewership with captioning\" src=\"http:\/\/juneux.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/increased_video_duration.jpg\" alt=\"Increase video viewership with captioning\" width=\"610\" srcset=\"https:\/\/juneux.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/increased_video_duration.jpg 633w, https:\/\/juneux.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/increased_video_duration-300x194.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I strongly encourage you to watch (and read) <a title=\"Why Caption Your Video\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp;v=IYMhNHuP2Zk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Why Caption Your Video<\/a>.
